Careers

The Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme throughout all year groups in the school adheres to the principle of independent advice and guidance given to students in accordance with the statutory responsibility placed on schools. The school employs a person-centred approach to interviewing in order to provide non-directive one-to one advice and guidance for students to complement the careers lessons and support provided during the above programme.

Heritage High School is part of The Two Counties Trust which allows us to work in collaboration with other schools to provide impartial Careers Guidance.

We measure the impact of the careers programme on our pupils through robust destination tracking at Y11, using the Compass+ tool to measure our Careers Programme against the Gatsby Benchmarks and through regular pupil and parent voice.

A wide range of other activities are incorporated into the CEIAG curriculum, details of which are shown in the documents under Useful Links below.

Through a wide variety of activities, lessons, visits and one-to-one career appointments, students are able to gain valuable knowledge about jobs and courses that may be of interest to them at various stages throughout their life. Our dedicated CEIAG Coordinator, Mrs E Ely will be in school each week on Monday and Tuesday to provide the support students need to help them make a well-informed, realistic decision about what to do after leaving Year 11 and help students to think further ahead about what they may wish to do in the future.

CEIAG isn’t just about what students learn in school, support at home and research in to different options plays a big part in developing a young person’s understanding of different jobs, employment and further study. It is important to visit open days and have discussions with your child to help them with their decision making. In order to support this, click here [list of websites as below] to view a list of websites that can be useful for students at all stages of the decision making process. You can also use the LMI information and Apprenticeship links on the Apprenticeships menu on this page to help you find more information.

If you or your child have any questions or concerns about GCSE Options, next steps after Year 11, University, or Career information, please contact the school’s Career Advisors, Mrs E Ely alternatively, you can phone the school reception and ask to speak with one of them.

Below are a number of useful links providing a variety of career information, advice and guidance.

The LMI Careerometer can be used to explore and compare key information about occupations, help you learn about different occupations and identify potential careers.

It provides access to a selection of UK headline data relating to pay, weekly hours of work and future employment prospects for different occupations, as well as description of the occupation.

Simply type in the title of the job you are interested in and the widget provides a series of options from which you can select the most relevant to you. You can then look up another two occupations and compare. You can also select ‘display the UK average’ and compare the information with the occupation you have selected.
