PSHE

The PSHE curriculum (Social Development on timetables) is built around a strong belief that social development forms the very basis of what it is to be a balanced and conscientious individual. Through our compassionate and supportive team we strive to deliver a broad curriculum that helps our students navigate their own lives now and in the future. PSHE gives students the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare for life and work in modern Britain.

Within PSHE lessons students are taught the statutory Relationships and Sex Education content as outlined in the Department for Education’s ‘Relationships, Sex and Health Education Guidance 2019’, which defines RSE as: ‘Learning about physical, moral and emotional development; understanding the importance of marriage for family life, stable and loving relationships, respect, love and care. It is also about the teaching of sex, sexuality and health.’ The programme is taught objectively; it does not promote sexual activity or any particular sexual orientation or gender identity. We have carefully planned a spiral curriculum where topics are addressed throughout years 7 to 11 with age-appropriate learning.

At Heritage High School we believe that it is vital that young people develop the skills to enable them to take control over their own sexual health and become responsible citizens who make well-informed decisions about their lives now and in the future.
