Health and Social Care

The Pearson BTEC level 1/2 level technical award is a popular course at Heritage High School. Varied and engaging lessons allow students to develop transferable skills, build on knowledge from other subject areas and acquire subject specific information and techniques which can then be applied within the care profession and also vital for everyday life.

Learners work through three components developing their understanding of human lifespan development, Health & Social Care services and Health & Wellbeing.

Two of the components are timed assessments which are rigorous and require students to apply their ability to research, comprehend, organise and infer, to realistic case studies released by the exam board at two points in the year. Component 3 culminates in a synoptic exam, covering all aspects of the course, sat in year 11.

Those students who achieve a level 2 by the end of the course, can progress to level 3, post-16 programmes such as A Levels, T-Levels and BTEC Nationals. From A&E consultants to radiologists, careers in this sector will continue to be in great demand, with an estimated 2.17 million job vacancies thought to be available in 2035 and with Derbyshire being the epicentre of H&SC training, it’s a secure career choice for any learner.
