RE

RE lessons at Heritage aim to help our students to be active citizens that can engage with the world around them and shape it for the better. We encourage pupils to explore their own beliefs (whether they are religious or non-religious), as they examine issues that affect them, their local community, Britain and the wider world. We examine religious beliefs and how these impact on personal, institutional and social ethics. This also builds resilience to anti-democratic or extremist narratives. We teach our pupils to develop respect for others, including people with different faiths and beliefs, and prompt pupils to consider their responsibilities to themselves and to others, and to explore how they might contribute to their communities and to wider society.

Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9)

Students at KS3 learn about a wide range of religious themes and concepts.  Throughout KS3 students gain a varied and broad understanding of all six world religions, several ethical issues and the opportunity for students to ask discuss life’s big questions whilst challenging themselves to discover their own worldview.  The KS3 curriculum is both challenging and engaging for students and has been successful in preparing students for GCSE studies.

Some of the topics studied at KS3 include: The six world religions, inspirational people, the existence of suffering and evil, new religious movements, belonging culturally without religiously, medical ethics, religion and conflict and looking for meaning.
