Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11)
Students follow the Edexcel Art and Design which we believe offers the best route for all students who are interested in studying Art and Design. The initial part of Year 10 is spent on an introductory project where students focus on further refining their skills and explore media and techniques.
Around February ½ Term in Y10 students will begin to produce their Component 1 Portfolio. They will select a project Assignment Theme. They will then produce work in response to the theme which explores the work of other artists’ and their own ideas through a diverse range of work. They will investigate using a variety of materials and equipment, leading to one final outcome or a collection of outcomes.
In Year 11 students will continue to add to their Component 1 Portfolio; they have the option to extend their current project or begin a second one.
After Christmas in Y11 students will begin Component 2: Responding to an assignment title, which is set by the exam board. The structure of this is similar to Component 1, students follow the same format as the coursework project and are expected to produce practical research and experimentation in response to a starting point. This is followed by a 10-hour practical exam (over 2 days) leading to a final outcome.
Students are also able to study Textile Design and Photography at GCSE Both of these course are also on the Edexcel Art and Design specification. These courses have a similar structure to the Art and Sesign course; with 2 components and a 10 hour practical assessment usually over 2 days
Students are able to study Art and Design & Photography or Textile Design & Photography.
