Modern Foreign Languages
“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, it goes to his heart.” Nelson Mandela.
At Heritage High School, students in Year 7 study Spanish and scholars in Years 8-11 study Spanish, guided by specialist teachers. Lessons take place in well-equipped classrooms and we also have access to laptops to enhance language learning through the use of online and interactive programmes. We believe that all scholars should have interesting and varied language lessons and scholars are encouraged to be creative in their use of Spanish. Scholars will also explore cultural aspects through activities such as Spanish tapas tasting or learning about customs and traditions in Spanish speaking countries. Furthermore, we believe that the trips to Spain are an important part of language learning as well as the development of cultural understanding. In previous years, we have organised trips to Spain where scholars enjoyed a variety of cultural activities including pancake making, a trip to a chocolate factory, beach games and competitions whilst away. We are looking forward to launching a new Spanish trip to Benalmádena later this academic year, where scholars will visit the culturally diverse cities of Málaga and Granada.
